Pastor

Dr. Arthur “Skip” Mellon is the founding pastor of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church of Hayward. He is a professor and educator associated with the Pacific Institute for Religious Studies. He holds educational credentials from Louisiana Baptist University, Sacramento Baptist Theological Seminary, Landmark Baptist College of Hayward, and has experience in Middle East Studies. His education includes Ph.D. (Religious Education), M.R.E. (Religious Education), M.A. (History), D.B.A (Business Administration), Th.B. (Theology), and B.A. (Education). Pastor Mellon was ordained August 14, 1974 by Landmark Baptist Church in Hayward. He served at Baptist churches as Pastor in Sacramento 1977-1979, Assoc. Pastor in Hayward 2006-2008, Assoc. Pastor in Tracy 2008-2010, and has been Pastor of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Hayward since 2014.

Arthur was born in New York City, Dec. 1944, moved to a ranch on the Mojave Desert, then moved to Richmond California and other places in the area. He enlisted in the United States Army at seventeen for the Paratroopers serving in Okinawa, Vietnam, Korea, Fort Benning, Fort Campbell, and Special Forces Training Group, Fort Bragg. His major secular employment included Private Investigator, Security Manager, and Safety Security and Hazardous Materials Manager. He became a Classified Contractor for US. Department of State, Embassy, El Salvador and Amman Jordan. Arthur Lyle Mellon married Linda Sue Annis in August 1972 and they have three children, six grandchildren, and are expecting a great grandchild.
