Doctrinal Beliefs

Jesus said these are the conditions for salvation.

Sovereign Grace Key Scriptures

Romans 1:16

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Romans 10:17

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Mark 1:15

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

John 3:1-10

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

Ephesians 2:8-10

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

The Sovereign Grace Baptist Church of Hayward California started as a home Bible study on August 17, 2014 and then as a mission out of the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church of the Silicon Valley in Morgan Hill, California. On December 23, 2018 we covenanted ourselves together as a local New Testament Church, to fellowship together and maintain the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper and to fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20) in spreading the Gospel (1 Cor. 15:1-9). Our church is Calvinistic and Baptistic holding to the First London Confession of Faith (1644-46) and Second London Confession of Faith (1677, 89) as a general expression of our faith.

Statement of Faith

Of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church

  • We hold to the Scriptures alone to be our rule of faith and practice. (2 Tim. 3:14-15).
  • We believe that expository preaching of the gospel to be the central ministry of the church and to declare the whole counsel of God (Matt. 28:18-20; Neh. 8:8; Acts 20:20-21, 26-27; Isa. 58:1).
  • We believe that there are only two offices in the church; the office of Pastor (1 Tim. 3:1-7) and the office of Deacon (1 Tim. 3:8-16; Acts 6:1-7).
  • We believe God is sovereign both in heaven and upon earth and works all things by His direct will or His permissive will (Dan. 4:35; Deut. 32:39; Psa. 46:10; Isa. 43:10, 12; 45:18).
  • We believe in the holy Trinity of God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Lk. 3:22; Matt. 28:19: Jn. 15:26; 16:14-17; 17:1-3).
  • We believe in salvation is by grace and faith alone without works for it is a gift from God. (Eph. 2:4-10).
  • We believe that in order for a person to be saved, he must be regenerated or born again of the Holy Spirit (Jn. 3:1-11).
  • We believe that all men everywhere are commanded to repent of their sins and believe the Gospel (Mk. 1:14-15; Matt. 3:1-2; 9:13; Acts 3:18; 17:30; Rom. 2:4; 2 Cor. 7:10).
  • We believe that forgiveness of sin comes only through the blood of Christ shed upon the Cross (Heb. 9:14; Col. 1:20; Rev. 1:5; 7:14).
  • We believe in the eternal security of the believer (Jn. 3:15; 10:28; Rom. 6:23; 8:28-30; 1 Cor. 1:8; 2 Tim. 1:12).
  • We believe only those who persevere to the end will be saved (Matthew 24;13; Jn, 15:1-17; Heb. 3:6; Rev. 2:26).
  • We believe that Christ gave only two ordinances Baptism and the Lord’s Supper and that baptism is by immersion in water (Matt. 3:1, 6; 28; 19; Lk. 3:21; Jn. 1:28, 31; Rom. 6:3) and that the Lord’s Supper or Communion is observed with wine and unleavened bread (Matt. 26 17, 26-29; Lev. 23:6).
  • We believe in Close or Closed Communion; that Communion is only to be observed by the local church as one body in Christ. (1 Cor. 11:1-34).
  • We believe in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Jn. 20:1-31; Rom. 6:4).
  • We believe in a Judgment Day when both the wicked and the righteous will be judged (Heb. 9:27; Eccl. 3:17; Acts 17:31; Matt.12:36; 2 Pet. 2:9; 1 Jn. 4:17; Rev. 20:11-15).

Our Meetings

SGBCH uses the Zoom video conferencing platform to host virtual church services, Bible studies, prayer groups, and meetings. It enables interactive “many-to-many” communication, allowing homebound members to see, hear, and connect with each other, rather than just watching a one-way live stream.
